SPCA Cupcake Day - Wednesday 29th October 2025!
We are inviting schools and early learning services across the country to take part in Cupcake Day, to help us make the lives of animals sweeter. Check out our SPCA Cupcake Day resources below!
Our SPCA Cupcake Day resources have a different focus from other resources on the Teachers' Portal as they do not focus on animal welfare or responsible animal guardianship. Instead, they focus on one of SPCA's important annual fundraising events.
When introducing SPCA Cupcake Day to your students, we encourage you to discuss the work of SPCA and explain why, as a charity, SPCA needs to carry out fundraising events to raise much needed funds to enable them to continue doing the critical work they do in your community. This will help students develop a greater understanding of SPCA and how important and appreciated their contribution to this event is.
On this page, you will find Mini-Unit Plans, Single Lesson Plans and Maths Task Cards.
These are one week plans that cover learning experiences related to reading, writing, maths and more to theme your whole week’s classroom programme and learning around SPCA Cupcake Day.
To extend your students' learning and incorporate more of an animal welfare focus into your SPCA Cupcake Day Mini-Unit check out our list of supporting resources in the Getting Started Tips.
These mini-units cover the following topics:
We know that it is not always possible to complete one of our full unit plans, based on various factors that go into selecting learning contexts in schools. Here you will find a series of one-session lesson plans that can be used as part of the series of lessons you already have planned in relation to Cupcake Day.
They are independent lessons that can be used whether or not you have used other resources from the Teachers’ Portal before with your students. All lessons begin with a brief overview that will provide the necessary animal welfare information to complete the lesson. If you have already used material from the Teachers’ Portal with your students, it may be suitable to exclude any animal welfare content that has already been covered in more depth.
The aim of these lesson plans is to allow teachers to incorporate animal welfare and responsible animal guardianship messages into a variety of learning contexts that they may already be covering.
