Each of SPCA’s Maths Problem Solving Task Cards has a question that applies the use of mathematics to a real life context of animal guardianship (ownership). The aim of these cards is to show students how the use of mathematics is necessary when considering whether to adopt an animal and also when you are an animal guardian. It is also hoped that the problems will be used to generate discussion about the responsible animal guardianship messages they contain in them.
In the overview of problems that can be found by clicking below there is a list of the problems, which provides the mathematical equations embedded in each of the word problems. This is to provide teachers with a quick reference of all the problems so that they can select problems that will be appropriate for the needs of their students and the strategies they are working on. Problems have roughly been placed in order from least to most challenging.
