Habitat Helpers is a science unit that looks at the importance of wildlife living in their natural habitats for their welfare and survival. It allows students to develop an understanding of how individuals can have a role in protecting the welfare of wildlife by taking action to conserve and protect the natural environment.
Students will begin the unit by being introduced to various habitats, the features of these and how an animal’s needs are met through living in the environment that they have naturally adapted to living in. They will then consider that an issue for the health and happiness of many species of wildlife is a loss of their natural habitats because of the effect people are having on them. The remainder of the unit focuses on actions that can be taken to help animals by preserving their natural habitats in our own backyards and then more widely in the community.
